Local GOP sets method to pick candidates, delegates
Daily staff report
The Shenandoah County Republican Committee has set its methods for picking delegates to the state party convention in May and to nominate candidates for three seats on the Board of Supervisors up for election in November.
The committee took action at its meeting Thursday, according to information issued on the group's website. Those interested in serving as a delegate to the convention must submit a filing form to Chairman David Ferguson by mail or in person by 5 p.m. March 22.
Candidates are urged to submit a $35 voluntary filing fee with their form.
Candidates seeking nomination to run for a supervisor's office must also file with Ferguson by 5 p.m. March 22. Candidates must include a $100 filing fee with the form. If no more than one candidate files for each position, then each person will be declared the Republican nominee and the party shall hold no mass meetings. The party will hold mass meetings at 7:30 p.m. March 28 in various locations in the county in the event of contested nominations.
The mass meetings also will elect delegates to the county convention scheduled for 7:30 p.m. April 26 at Central High School in Woodstock. Nominations to run for supervisors' seats shall be determined at the convention.
