Two-day garden show coming to Strasburg
By Sally Voth
With spring just a month off, several Strasburg organizations are getting together to put on an inaugural flower show.
The Strasburg Garden & Flower Show, "Romancing the Memories," will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 23 and 24 at Phoenix Fitness and Aquatics and Phoenix Fine Arts, 35 Brandy Court.
"I'm trying, with the garden club, to get community support and involve a lot of different areas in the valley and try to pull them together, and of course, the garden is a great place to do [that]," said David Lassiter, a designer who owns E. Pearls Garden & Antiques. "It brings everybody kind of together."
He noted the number of greenhouses, flower shops, farms and organizations such as FAA, the community has to offer.
Lassiter said the show is being sponsored by his shop, Hometown Strasburg, Hupp's Hill Visitor's Center, the Fairfield Inn and Friends and Family Fighting Cancer.
"There's going to be some garden club exhibits," he said. "We're going to have some different people coming to do some demonstrations about house plants.
"I'm just hoping that this will really help bring the community together. I'm hoping instead of being competitive, we can be more complimentary of each other and just strive for a better environment, more beautiful environment, and put things more in a green aspect."
The show's also a chance to introduce more people to Strasburg businesses, according to Lassiter.
"There's so much available right here in this little spot," he said.
Tickets are $5 each. For more information, call 540-247-0929 or 540-931-3451. For vendor applications and a schedule, visit www.epearlsantiques.com.
