Baroncelli won't seek third term on board

Daily staff report

WOODSTOCK - Shenandoah County Supervisor Sharon Baroncelli won't seek a third term on the board.

Baroncelli read a statement at the board's meeting Tuesday night advising members and the public of her intentions to not run for the District 4 seat.

"My family is changing, growing and moving in different directions and my focus and energy needs to be redirected to them in the future pursuits of our family," Baroncelli said. "After eight years I believe it's a good time for a fresh perspective."

Baroncelli joined the board in 2006 after her election in November 2005 to fill the seat of Chairman Barry Murphy. Baroncelli won re-election to the district seat in November 2009, staving off Democratic Party challenger Jim Fitzsimmons and independent write-in candidate Cindy Bailey.

Baroncelli on Tuesday called Murphy "a great mentor" and said she hoped he would feel proud of the decisions she has made over the years.

"I know you can never make everyone happy in this position, but I know I've done the best I could as your representative," Baroncelli said, adding that she felt proud of the work accomplished by the board. "We may not always agree, but at the end of the day we know how to work together to make the best decisions to move our county forward.

"This board does not reach decisions quickly or lightly," Baroncelli added. "There's a great deal of research, study, deliberations and negotiations that goes into every decision."
