Frederick County seeking broadband input
Daily staff report
Frederick County and a consultant are seeking input on broadband access and availability in the area.
The county's Information Technology Department and the Center for Innovative Technology announced Friday an initiative to analyze the local broadband infrastructure. Then they would create a plan that identifies sources of funding and strategies aimed at improving availability and quality of service, according to a press release.
The department received a $25,000 grant to start the initiative.
The next step involves a needs assessment to include a survey of broadband access in the county. Residents and businesses are encouraged to participate in the brief survey by visiting www.frederickcountyva.gov/broadbandsurvey or www.co.frederick.va.us and clicking "Website survey."
Director of Technology Services Walter Banks states that improved access to high-speed, broadband networks is critical to expanding local business development, public safety communications, education resources, telework and workforce training opportunities.
