Family flees Front Royal house fire

An early Tuesday morning house fire in Front Royal forced the occupants to flee the building unharmed before firefighters arrived and brought it under control.

Fire Chief Richard E. Mabie estimated damage to the two-story single family home at 1008 N. Royal Ave. at $25,000. Mabie said in a written statement that firefighters were called at 2:08 a.m. and brought the fire under control by 2:47 a.m.

Amy T. Whittaker, a spokeswoman for the American Red Cross, said her organization was helping a family of six adults and one child with financial assistance for meals, clothing and hotel lodging in the aftermath of the fire.
