Front Royal police arrest Elks burglary suspect

Front Royal police arrested a 45-year-old man last week and charged him with burglary in a break-in at the Elks Lodge at 4088 Guard Hill Road.

Chief Norman A. Shiflett reported that police arrived at the scene after a building alarm sounded just before midnight March 24.

Officer Travis Cave found a suspect, later identified as Howard Dwayne Jefferies of Front Royal, entering the building through a roof vent, according to Shiflett. Jefferies, who was dressed in all black clothing, fled after Cave ordered him out of the building, Shiflett said.

Cave chased Jefferies through a parking lot across Guard Hill Road and over an embankment before capturing him, Shiflett said.

Jefferies was also charged with possession of burglary tools and is being held without bond in the Warren County Jail, Shiflett said. A court appearance is scheduled for 10 a.m. April 30.

Shiflett asks anyone with information on the case to contact police at 635-2111.
