L. Marquetta Mitchell, financial adviser with Edward Jones in Strasburg, will host a seminar titled "Beauty and Finance" at 9 a.m. March 20.

Darlene Ratlief, esthetician with Spectrum Skin Care in Woodstock, will be a guest speaker. Ratlief will discuss skin consultation, deep cleansing, masks, and face and neck massage.

Mitchell's presentation will be a market update titled "It's Time to Talk Taxes."

Financial report

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans recently announced that its 2012 financial results led to a fourth straight year of growth for the nonprofit membership organization.

The firm increased its financial strength in 2012 and provided 8.7 million volunteer hours and $165.3 million in direct support to charitable organizations, schools, congregations and communities across the country.

Assets under management grew to $82.2 billion, up 8.4 percent from 2011, while statutory revenue was up 4 percent to $8.3 billion. Adjusted surplus reached $6.1 billion, an all-time high for the organization.

Thrivent Financial saw strong sales in life insurance (up 14 percent), health insurance (up 13 percent) and variable annuity sales (18-percent increase).
