Shentel income up in fourth-quarter 2012

Edinburg telecommunications firm Shentel is reporting fourth-quarter earnings that are 22 percent higher than the same period in 2011.
For the final three months of 2012, Shentel had a net income of $4.9 million, up from $4 million in the same period in 2011, according to a news release from the company. Its net income from continuing operations was $5.1 million, up from $3.8 million in 2011.
Shentel's fourth-quarter revenue in 2012 was $75 million, a nearly 13-percent increase from the final quarter of 2011, which saw $66.5 million, according to the release.
Overall operating expenses were up $7.2 million to $65.7 million in the fourth quarter of 2012, according to the release.
