Board Vice Chairman Dennis Morris currently represents District 5, which covers three precincts, including Toms Brook, Cedar Creek and Lebanon Church.
Shruntz is a member of the Shenandoah County Republican Women, part of the Shenandoah County Republican Committee. Shruntz also identifies herself as a member of the Shenandoah Valley Constitutional Conservatives.
In her announcement, Shruntz states she's running on the campaign theme "Let's Try Honesty." Shruntz states she is pro-guns, pro-business, against bond debt and supports keeping taxes down.
"I'm very interested in the economic development situation here in the county," Shruntz said this week.
Shruntz indicates she has not previously served in political office.
Shruntz, 64, retired from Frederick County Public Schools in October after working 15 years as a bus driver for the system.
"I was very well liked and I loved my kids and the kids loved me," Shruntz said this week.
