Five children hospitalized following crash

At least five people were transported to hospitals following a two-vehicle collision on Morgan Ford Road one mile north of Howellsville Road at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler said the five victims were children, two boys and three girls, riding in a 2002 Toyota SUV driven by Jan Josephine Akers of Front Royal. He listed their ages as 8, 6, 5, 2 and 1.

Tyler said Akers's car was traveling southbound on Morgan Ford Road when she lost control and crossed over to the other side and collided with a northbound
GMC pickup truck driven by Michael L. Mueller, 65, also of Front Royal. Tyler said the children were taken to Winchester Medical Center and Warren Memorial Hospital.

He said all but two of the children were properly restrained during the crash. The two who lacked proper restraints were wearing seat belts, he said.

Tyler said state Trooper P.M. Neff investigated the crash and charged Akers with reckless driving.
