L. Marquetta Mitchell, financial advisor with Edward Jones in Strasburg, will host a seminar, Financial Scams and Finance, at 9 a.m. April 17 at Christina's Café, 219 W. King St., Strasburg.

She will give a market update, and Strasburg police investigator Larry Crum will discuss scams -- what to look for to determine if you've been a victim of one.

Peter W. Buchbauer and James J. McGuire of the Winchester law firm Buchbauer & McGuire, P.C., attended the mid-year meeting of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in Puerto Rico recently. The meeting covered complex equitable distribution and custody issues, as well as advanced evidence collection and presentation.

New Look Kitchen and Bath, located in Front Royal, has hired Virginia Tech graduate Louise Pearson for its design team. Pearson has a degree in housing design, concentrating in kitchen and bath design, with a minor in horticulture.
