Humane Society, cruise company team up on fall fundraiser giveaway
By Josette Keelor
As part of its fundraising efforts this year, The Humane Society of Warren County will offer a chance to win a Canada/New England cruise for two with Royal Caribbean Cruises.
The eight-night vacation for two will depart from Baltimore on Oct. 3 and return Oct. 11.
The Front Royal animal shelter has never before offered a cruise as part of a fundraiser, said Lavenda Denney, executive director of the shelter.
"We're constantly doing fundraising," she said. The idea for the cruise came from the CruiseOne Front Royal franchise location, Denney said.
Tickets are $25 each or $100 for a book of five. The vacation package includes a $100 on-board credit and pre-paid gratuities aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship, Grandeur of the Seas, said Tiffany Falls, co-owner of the Front Royal franchise location.
"This will be the new Baltimore home port ship," she said.
In May, the Grandeur of the Seas will replace the Enchantment of the Seas as the Baltimore home port ship, which she said is exciting because it was just renovated last year.
"This is fantastic, because usually we have an old rundown one," she said.
For the October voyage, the cruise ship will dock in Portland and Bar Harbor, Maine; Saint John, New Brunswick; and Halifax, Nova Scotia, according to CruiseOne's website, tfalls.cruiseone.com.
Only 325 tickets will be sold in the fundraiser, and the drawing will be held at the shelter, at 1245 Progress Drive, Front Royal, during the "Cruise On In Open House," at 6 p.m. July 17.
Falls said the idea for the fundraiser came up at a meeting of the Front Royal-Warren County Chamber of Commerce when she was talking with Tammy Darr, treasurer on the Humane Society of Warren County Board of Directors.
"It not only helps the shelter but it helps my business," Falls said. She said she hopes to be a part of future fundraisers with the Humane Society.
Denney said this will be only one of many fundraisers the Humane Society will hold this year.
"We start kicking off in the spring," she said.
