Authorities looking for suspect in gun theft

By Joe Beck

The Warren County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man, described as armed and dangerous, who is suspected of stealing a 9mm pistol.

The suspect, Shawn Anthony Tackett, 28, also has made threats to family members and said he would "take out" anyone in law enforcement who tries to arrest him, according to authorities.

Tackett is described as 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighing 280 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair.

Sheriff Daniel T. McEathron said his agency obtained an arrest warrant for Tackett on Sunday for grand larceny. The arrest warrant is not connected to the gun theft in which Tackett is considered only a suspect, McEathron said. Tackett is also wanted in connection with two child support cases, McEathron said.

The Sheriff's Office stated that Tackett may be under the influence of methamphetamine and has been charged with manufacturing and distributing the drug in the past.

McEathron said Tackett has no fixed permanent address.

"He was a motel jumper," McEathron said. "He stayed between here, West Virginia and Maryland."

Tackett may be driving a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab pickup truck, according to the Sheriff's Office. The truck is black with Maryland, West Virginia or Virginia license plates. The sheriff's office said the truck has bullet holes in the tailgate and driver's side from an earlier, unrelated incident.

Tackett is switching plates on the truck, according to authorities.

McEathron said he believes the truck has been sighted in Warren County, but no one has reported seeing Tackett.

Anyone with information on Tackett's whereabouts is asked to call Deputy Brandon Darr at 635-4128 or their local enforcement agency.
