Family of teacher who died in accident settles lawsuit
Opposing lawyers settled the last phase of a lawsuit Tuesday filed by the family members of a middle school teacher who died in a fatal two-vehicle accident on Jubal Early Drive in Winchester on July 12.
The settlement approved in Winchester Circuit Court awards $325,000 to the children and widower of Amber N. Lucchiani, 30. The suit was filed against Leslie Wylie, 30, a Knoxville, Tenn., woman who was driving a pickup truck that crossed the median strip and struck a minivan driven by Lucchiani.
The terms of the settlement admit no liability for the accident on the part of Wylie, who is awaiting a trial in August on related charges of involuntary manslaughter and misdemeanor reckless driving.
Lucchiani was a teacher at Robert E. Aylor Middle School in Stephens City.
Lucchiani's two children, Anthony and Isabella, were in the van during the crash and hospitalized for treatment of their injuries. The children were 3 and 5 years old at the time of the accident.
The settlement states they both children suffered "psychological and/or emotional effects" as a result of the accident.
