GIANT Food Stores and MARTIN'S Food Markets recently announced a $3 million donation to 2,868 public and private schools through its A+ School Rewards program for the 2012-13 school year.

Since the program's launch in 2005, more than $16 million has been donated to local schools throughout participating markets in the four states that GIANT/MARTIN's operates, according to a press release.

The A+ School Rewards program allows local schools to earn cash for technology, scholarships, school programs, field trips, playgrounds and other educational needs. Points are accrued with each purchase made using a GIANT/MARTIN'S BonusCard for the customer's school of choice.

Governor Wolf Elementary School (Bethlehem, Pa.) was this year's top earning school ($21,413.55), while Mills E. Godwin High School in Richmond was the top earning school in Virginia (6,477.80).

New service

First Bank has partnered with CustomerStream to begin offering CardCashTM to their customers, according to a news release. CardCashTM is a free cash-back rewards program paying up to 1% cash back in non-PIN debit card purchases every month.

First Bank customers with debit cards will receive the following CardCashTM benefits, absolutely free:
• Up to 1% cash-back rewards on all qualifying non-PIN debit card purchases with unlimited yearly cash-back earning potential.
• Monthly e-Statements communicating their CardCashTM Earnings and detailed evaluation on qualified and non-qualified transactions.
• CardCashTM Bonus Alert emails that provide tips and tricks for optimizing earning opportunities.
• Monthly automatic deposit of cash-back earnings to their checking account - no need for redemption.

Award applications

The EDA and Chamber of Commerce has announced that applications for the 2013 Business Excellence Awards are now available for submission online at wceda.com or from the EDA or Chamber offices. In order to qualify, the business must have less than 500 employees and be licensed in Front Royal or Warren County.

Awards will be made in the amounts of $1,000; $700; and $500. Deadline for submission is close of business, June 3.
