Public meetings May 27-31

The following public meetings are scheduled this week:

Most government offices and agencies are closed Monday in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.

Shenandoah County
The Board of Supervisors meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The board plans to hold public hearings on:

  • Virginia Department of Transportation’s proposed Secondary Six-Year Plan for fiscal 2014-2019 in the county and on the secondary system construction budget for fiscal 2014. Projects in the secondary six-year plan eligible for federal funds will be included in the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program.
  • An ordinance to amend the county code to reflect state vehicle and traffic laws that take effect July 1
  • The board plans to hear a presentation by a consultant with L.R. Kimbal Inc. regarding the maintenance status of the county’s Emergency 911 telephone system. The National Park Service will introduce new representatives of the Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historic Park and Shenandoah National Park.

    Supervisors plan to consider a special-use permit request by Dennis Thomas to operate an outdoor woodstove sales business at 1629 Zion Church Road, Maurertown.

    The board will discuss a proposed extension of the memorandum of agreement between the county Parks and Recreation Department and the School Board. Supervisors also plan to consider accepting and funding two conservation easement proposals totaling 313.8 acres on Pleasantdale Farm.

    The board plans to meet in closed session to discuss appointments to the Lord Fairfax Emergency Medical Services Council, Tourism Council, Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging and the Library Board.

    The Town Council Finance and Personnel Committee meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The panel plans to convene in closed session to discuss the semi-annual review of the town manager’s position.

    Front Royal
    Town Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Council plans to hold public hearings on:

    • An ordinance to amend the town code to reflect changes in the state’s motor vehicle laws
    • An ordinance to increase trash collection rates
    • An ordinance to increase rates for water and sewer service
    • An ordinance to appropriate funds as shown in the fiscal 2014 budget

    Council also may approve bids for a forklift for the Department of Energy Services as well as a budget amendment and improvements to the water treatment plant.

    Frederick County
    The Public Works Committee meets at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

    The Transportation Committee meets at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

    The Sanitation Authority meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

    The Frederick County Public Schools Service Learning community forum will be held for the Board of Supervisors at 7 p.m. Thursday.

    The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

    Stephens City

    The Parks and Recreation Committee meets at 5 p.m. Monday.

    The Planning Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

    The Finance Committee meets at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

    The Public Safety Committee meets at 7 p.m. Thursday.
