Public meetings

The following public meetings are scheduled this week:

Shenandoah County

The School Board meets in closed session at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The board then convenes in open session for its regular meeting at 7 p.m.

Town Council holds a work session at 7 p.m. Monday.

Town Council holds a public hearing on the fiscal 2014 budget at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday. Council then holds their regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Members plan to hear a special report from the Woodstock Enhancement Committee.

Council then plans to consider:

  • Amendments to the Personnel Policies and Procedures Handbook pertaining to the hiring of relatives, types of employment, permanent and temporary employee; hours of work and leave of absences in the normal duty cycle; job descriptions for police lieutenant and sergeant

  • Amendments to the handbook pertaining to the pay plan for police

  • Amendments to the town code pertaining to uses permitted by special permit

  • Bids for the replacement of a wall and road on West North Street below the railroad tracks

  • A resolution to approve the Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission state-mandated and FEMA-approved Hazard Mitigation Plan

Warren County
The Board of Supervisors meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The board plans to authorize staff to advertise public hearings for:

  • A proposed change to the county code to require a $100 fee with a fireworks display application

  • Changes to the county code pertaining to floodplains and dam break inundation zones

  • Supervisors plan to meet in closed session to consult with legal counsel on the proposed Front Royal Limited Partnership (Vazzana) annexation proposal, the U.S. 522 North Corridor and Shenandoah Farms Volunteer Fire Department.

The board plans to hold a work session after its regular meeting to discuss:

  • The Virginia Department of Transportation Secondary Six-Year Plan

  • Town-County Liaison Committee items

  • Rappahannock Electric Cooperative's policy on cost extension of service on larger and more remote lots

  • A request by the School Board pertaining to the second middle school

  • The Warren County Education Foundation Scholarship

The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The commission plans to hold a public hearing on a request to amend the county code to allow a nonconforming deck attached to a single-family dwelling to be reconstructed within two years of destruction or removal but not thereafter. No such reconstruction shall increase the degree of nonconformity. The commission also plans to discuss:

  • A request for a conditional-use permit for a commercial boarding kennel at 1477 Hillandale Road
  • A review of a proposed Riverton substation site off Va. 55 West (Strasburg Road)
  • An update on the Front Royal Planning Commission meetings regarding the Front Royal Limited Partnership annexation request

The School Board holds its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Front Royal
The Urban Forest Advisory Commission meets at 5 p.m. Monday.

Town Council holds a work session at 7 p.m. Monday.

Frederick County
The Technical Advisory Committee of the Metropolitan Planning Organization meets at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The Frederick County School Board holds a work session at 6 p.m. Tuesday followed by its regular meeting at 7 p.m.

The Board of Supervisors meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The board will hold a public hearing on an ordinance to increase and set the salaries of the supervisors at $15,000 a year for chairman, $13,500 for vice chairman and $10,000 for remaining members. Supervisors have not had a salary increase since 2001.

The board will hold public hearings on:

  • An addition of 268 acres to the South Timber Ridge Agricultural and Forestal District along Hollow Road, Muse Road and Gold Orchard Road

  • To establish a new agricultural and forestall district covering 400 acres along Old Charlestown Road, Opequon Creek and Slate Lane

The board plans to discuss:

  • An amendment to the Comprehensive Policy Plan pertaining to a future expansion of sewer and water service to the area around Lord Fairfax Community College and Middletown

  • An amendment to the Comprehensive Policy Plan, specifically an update to the Northeast Land Use Plan pertaining to the light property sewer and water service area

  • A zoning ordinance amendment for entrance spacing

The Human Resources Committee meets at 8 a.m. Friday.

The Winchester-Frederick County Economic Development Committee meets at 8 a.m. Friday at the Winchester Regional Airport.

Town Council holds a work session at 7 p.m. Monday.

Stephens City
The Historic Preservation Commission holds a special meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
