Seminar to offer advice on curbing fraud against seniors

Several expert speakers will be offering advice to seniors on how they can protect themselves against fraud at a seminar scheduled from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Warren County Government Center, 220 Commerce Ave. Room 602, Front Royal.

Topics will include Internet and telemarketing scams, identity theft, investment schemes, lottery/sweepstakes, victim in distress, advanced fee fraud, deceptive home improvement and medical services, distraction scams, and power of attorney embezzlement.

Speakers will include Front Royal police Detective Crystal Cline, John Steele of Adult Protection Social Services and Tim Frees, a certified fraud examiner.

The free event is open to seniors, elders, family members, caregivers, and others interested in learning more about preventing and reporting major scams that target the elderly.
