The winners of the inaugural Hop Blossom Homebrew Competition were announced on Wednesday. Tim Arndt of Front Royal won Best of Show with his Old Train Vanilla Porter. More than 200 entries were submitted to the competition, held during the Hop Blossom Craft Beer Festival in Winchester last Saturday, and judged according to beer style in 17 separate categories.

The 2013 Veteran Conference will be held at Lord Fairfax Community College's Corron Community Development Center on Wednesday, June 19, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A truck driving simulator, made of wrap-around plasma screens and digital imaging, will be provided by James River Transportation as part of the state's Troops to Trucks program. The conference will also include a mini job fair for veterans, three info sessions and a lunch.The event is free for veterans and $25 for non-veterans.

The Strasburg Rite Aid, on 335 Crystal Lane, will be hosting a grand opening on Monday. The store has been remodeled, including a new walkway to the pharmacy, has a different color scheme and more organic products. Strasburg Mayor Timothy Taylor will be cutting the ribbon at the event at 10 a.m.

The Winchester-based Integrity Home Mortgage Corporation has announced the addition of a Harrisonburg branch. The branch, located at 1960 Evelyn Byrd Ave., will be staffed by loan officer Tim Cline.
