Front Royal drug defendant facing additional charges

Daily staff report

Charges are piling up against Ronnie Maurice Jones, a Front Royal man initially arrested June 12 after authorities accused him of selling heroin.

Front Royal police announced in a news release on Wednesday that Jones is facing many additional charges linked to his arrest in a large scale joint drug bust spanning Front Royal and several counties.

Police said the new charges against Jones, 36, include possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute; possession of a firearm while also possessing a schedule I or schedule II narcotic; and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Front Royal Chief Norman Shiflett said teams of law enforcement officers from Front Royal, and Warren, Shenandoah, Rockingham and Page counties, Harrisonburg, state police and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives participated in the bust.

The list of items seized included heroin, crack cocaine, firearms and an undisclosed amount of cash.
