Preliminary hearing set for drug suspects

By Joe Beck

A Warren County judge scheduled preliminary hearings Tuesday for eight adult defendants arrested Friday in a drug raid at the Quality Inn Motel in Front Royal.

Warren County General District Judge W. Dale Houff scheduled the hearings for Davonte Laquan Starks, 22; Adrian Darnell Edwards, 19; Tabitha Kay Poundstone, 21; Tiara Lachay Bailey, 19; Jessica Nicole Wayland, 21; Jade Chelsea Wines, 21; Christopher Donte Foreman, 19; and Bruce Garrett Pilgrim, 20.

All of the defendants are from Front Royal. The case also includes two juveniles who are defendants in Warren County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

The defendants are charged with drug-related offenses involving the sale or possession of heroin, cocaine or marijuana.

A criminal complaint describes police executing a search warrant at a room at the Quality Inn Motel located at 10 South Commerce Ave., on Friday night. The complaint, written by M.L. Henry of the Warren County Sheriff's Office, states that investigators found Adrian Edwards and three unidentified individuals in the room.

Authorities found a cigarette pack with five individually packaged cocaine rocks and some heroin, according to the complaint.

"Everyone in the room denied any knowledge of whom the drugs belonged to," Henry wrote. Package materials and a large sum of cash were found in the room. The search warrant was executed as a result of a controlled narcotics purchase of heroin from the room."

During Tuesday's hearing, Houff and defense attorney Eric Wiseley said they were uneasy with waiting until July 31 for the next hearing, but no one was sure how long it would take for the prosecution to receive the results of laboratory testing of evidence gathered by law enforcement.

Houff called two months "very optimistic" in estimating when the lab results would be ready for consideration in court proceedings.

"I'd really prefer earlier than later, but I appreciate the Commonwealth's difficulty," Wiseley said, referring to the prosecution and the wait for the lab results.
