Public meetings, July 1-5

Municipal government offices close Thursday in observance of Independence Day. The following public meetings are scheduled this week:

New Market
Town Council holds committee meetings beginning at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The Finance Committee plans to consider an amendment to the fiscal 2014 budget regarding the financial participation in the upsizing of a water main to the New Market Eagles building.
The Public Works Committee may consider a reduction in the water and sewer availability or connection fees.

The Public Safety Committee plans to hear an update on the regional jail discussions concerning prisoner transport.

The Tourism, Economic Development and Historic Preservation Committee may consider a request of the New Market Area Chamber of Commerce to use the Congress Street public parking lot for the rental of vendor space during the Route 11 Yard Crawl on Aug. 10. The Chamber also has requested the town provide the use of public space and in-kind support for the Heritage Days Fall Festival.

The Planning Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. The panel will consider a request by the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation for a parking waiver at 9386 S. Congress St.

Town Council holds joint public hearings with the Planning Commission beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday on:

  • A request by the Rocking Cooperative Farm Bureau Inc. to rezone a 0.42-acre parcel of property at 343 W. Spring St. from medium density residential to light industrial
  • A request of the St. John Bosco Catholic Church for a special-use permit for church-related services at 127 W. North St. in the high-density residential district
  • A proposal by the town to vacate an unimproved portion of Hughes Street from the intersection of South Commerce Street, west to the Norfolk Southern railroad right-

    Front Royal
    The Urban Forestry Advisory Commission meets at 5 p.m. Monday in the Town Hall Conference Room.

    Town Council holds a work session at 7 p.m. Monday. Council plans to discuss:

  • Building inspection and planning software
  • Financing for the engineering phase of the Leach Run Parkway project
  • A building inspections office
  • A proposed rainwater ordinance
  • The renewal of an out-of-town agreement with the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control
  • The fireworks permit fee
  • CGI Communications overview
  • Police department motor patrol
  • Council plans to meet in closed session to discuss the town manager’s evaluation.
  • Frederick County
    The Code and Ordinance Committee meets at 3 p.m. Monday.

    The Technical Advisory Committee of the Metropolitan Planning Organization meets at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

    The Technology Committee meets at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday.

    The Winchester-Frederick County Economic Development Commission meets at 8 a.m. Friday at the Winchester Regional Airport.


    Town Council holds a work session at 7 p.m. Monday.

    Stephens City
    Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
