Public meetings for June 24-28

The following public meetings are scheduled this week:

Shenandoah County
The Board of Supervisors meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The board plans to hold a public hearing on a request to designate the Shenandoah Valley Teen Challenge as exempt from real estate and personal property taxes. The 2013 assessed value of the property owner by the Shenandoah Valley Teen Challenge is $513,900. Real estate tax for 2013 is $2,775.06 and personal property tax is $150.56. The board also plans to consider:

  • Policies related to the county’s fund balance
  • Granting a utility easement to Shentel along County Farm property on Tea Berry Road in Maurertown
  • A special-use permit requested by David C. and Richard L. Walker to construct a two-family dwelling on Hahns Lane in Toms Brook

Supervisors plan to go into closed session to discuss appointments to the Citizens Advisory Committee, the Water Resources Advisory Committee, the Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging and the Tourism Council.

Town staff holds an open house on the downtown utility improvement project from 5-7 p.m. Monday in Town Hall.

The Planning Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Warren County
The Development Review Committee meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The Transition Committee of the Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail Authority Board meets at 1 p.m. Thursday. The full board meeting follows at 2 p.m.

The Anti-Litter Council meets at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Front Royal
Town Council meets at 7 p.m. Monday. Council plans to hold public hearings on:

  • A special-use permit and a site-development plan application for a replacement of a telecommunications tower off Guard Hill Road
  • An ordinance to repeal the town code section pertaining to the towing advisory board

Council also plans to consider:

  • An ordinance to amend the town code to include online public auctions
  • Fireworks display permits for the New Hope Bible Church and Poe’s South Fork Campground
  • A budget amendment for water treatment plant improvements
  • An extension of the review for the Front Royal Limited Partnership annexation petition

Frederick County
The Transportation Committee meets at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

The Broadband Project meeting takes place at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Board of Supervisors room at 107 N. Kent St. The consultant will go over the results of the survey completed by 2,250 residents, highlight the strengths and weaknesses of broadband service in the county and layout possible recommendations on how to move forward on addressing broadband service.


The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Monday.

Stephens City

The Parks and Recreation Committee meets at 5 p.m. Monday.

The Planning Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Town Council Finance Committee meets at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Town Council holds a special meeting on the fiscal 2014 budget at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
