Public meetings

The following public meetings are scheduled this week:

Shenandoah County

The Board of Supervisors holds a work session at 4 p.m. Thursday. Prior to the meeting, the board plans to tour the Edinburg School and historic courthouse sites currently under construction. At the work session the board plans to discuss:

  • The next phase of the Emergency 911 telephone system
  • A staffing study with the Department of Fire and Rescue
  • Renewal of a line of credit for the school division
  • The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Thursday. The commission plans to hold a public hearing on a request by David C. and Richard L. Walker for a special-use permit to build a duplex on a vacant lot in the Nellie Reger subdivision on Hahns Lane in Toms Brook. The 0.575-acre property, zoned for medium-density residential use, lies approximately ΒΌ mile from Hahns Lane and Old Valley Pike (U.S. 11) at the north end of Toms Brook. The commission also plans to receive a briefing by County Planner Patrick Felling on the Citizens Advisory Committee's work on the comprehensive plan.

    New Market
    Town Council holds committee meetings beginning at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The Public Safety Committee plans to discuss lighting on Congress Street. The Tourism, Economic Development and Historic Preservation Committee plans to hear a presentation by Kathy Frazier, of Frazier Associates.

    The Town Council Infrastructure Committee meets at 5 p.m. Monday. The committee plans to review options to better meet the space needs of the police department and administrative staff in Town Hall. The panel also plans to hear an update from staff on the study and design of a pedestrian trail along North Massanutten Street/U.S. 11 to the Food Lion shopping center.

    Town Council holds a work session at 7 p.m. Monday. Council plans to discuss:

  • Proposed revisions to the town's guidelines for handling proposals submitted through the Private-Public Educational Facilities and Infrastructure Act
  • A proposed ordinance that recognizes a previously approved vacation of a portion of Stickley Street
  • A proposed request for proposals through the Private-Public Educational Facilities and Infrastructure Act for firms interested in designing and building a water storage tower
  • Council then plans to meet in closed session to discuss a personnel matter

  • Woodstock

    Town Council plans to hold a joint public hearing with the Planning Commission at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday on a proposed change to the definition of fine arts studio and professional offices in certain zoning districts. Town Council then holds its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

    Warren County

    The Board of Supervisors meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The board plans to hold a public hearing on the Virginia Department of Transportation's proposed Secondary Six-Year Plan for fiscal 2014-2019 and construction budget for fiscal 2014. Supervisors also plan to meet in closed session to discuss an industrial prospect, possible acquisition of real property and to receive legal counsel pertaining to the Front Royal Limited Partnership annexation petition and the U.S. 340-522 North Corridor. Following the meeting, the board plans to hold a work session to discuss the purchase of a 105-foot aerial ladder truck by the Warren County Fire and Rescue Department for Station 10; an amendment to the county's personnel policies on health insurance; and the Front Royal Limited Partnership development.

    Front Royal

    The Urban Forestry Advisory Commission meets at 5 p.m. Monday in the Town Hall Conference Room.

    Town Council holds a work session at 7 p.m. Monday. Council plans to discuss:

  • The deputy zoning administrator position
  • A resolution for the regional hazard mitigation plan
  • Applications for a special-use permit and site plan for a replacement tower at Guard Hill
  • Software for building inspections and planning department
  • An ordinance amendment pertaining to rainwater processing by the town's sewer treatment system
  • The Catlett Mountain landfill
  • Tree-removal on Academy Drive
  • Appointments to the Audit and Finance Committee
  • The proposed fiscal 2014 budget
  • Council plans to meet in closed session to discuss the town attorney evaluation.

    Frederick County
    The Public Safety Committee meets at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

    The Technical Advisory Committee of the Winchester-Frederick County Metropolitan Planning Organization meets at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

    The Technology Committee meets at 8 a.m. Wedneday.

    The Planning Commission meeting set for 7 p.m. Wednesday has been canceled.

    The Human Resources Committee meets at 8 a.m. Friday.

    The Winchester-Frederick County Economic Development Commission meets at 8 a.m. Friday at the Winchester Regional Airport.
