Front Royal attorney to head up Valley Health board of trustees

The Valley Health System Board of Trustees Tuesday picked Front Royal attorney Joseph F. Silek Jr. as its chairman, according to a press release issued Tuesday evening.
The board approved Silek's nomination at its meeting Tuesday afternoon. Silek succeeds James T. Holland, whose decades of service on the boards of the Winchester Medical Center and Valley Health ended in May, according to the release.
Silek began his involvement with Valley Health in 1995 as a member of the Board of Directors of Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal. Silek became chairman of that hospital's board in 2004, a seat he held for six years. At that time he also was appointed to the board of the Valley Health System, according to the release.
The Front Royal native opened his law practice in 1995. Lawson and Silek represents businesses in the public and private sectors.
Silek holds a bachelor of science from the University of Richmond and a juris doctorate with honors from Campbell University Law School, where he served as business editor for the Campbell Law Review.
Silek also serves as chairman of the board of Randolph-Macon Academy, a member of the Front Royal Rotary Club and as past president and board member of the Front Royal-Warren County Chamber of Commerce.
Silek is past president of the Warren County Bar Association and a member of the Virginia and North Carolina Bar Associations. He is a member of the taxation, real property and probate sections of the American Bar Associations.
Silek and his wife Jane have two sons.
The board of trustees at its meeting also confirmed Dr. Patrick D. Ireland, a neurosurgeon at Winchester Medical Center, as its vice chairman, and former chairman Harry F. Byrd III as secretary.
The Valley Health board also welcomed new trustees Steven E. Cluss, a member of the WMC board; Mary Beth Price, incoming chairwoman of the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees; and Winchester cardiologist Dr. Jeffrey A. Skiles.
