Stephens City man accused of attempted bank robbery

Winchester police arrested a Stephens City man and charged him with attempted bank robbery following a search around the United Bank on Berryville Avenue.

The bank reported a robbery to police around 12:30 p.m. Police learned upon their arrival that a suspect left the area on foot. Police later found John Matthew Jenkins, 28, at the corner of National Avenue and Raleigh Court, according to a police news release. Jenkins was taken in for questioning just before 2 p.m. and charged, police said.

Frederick County and Winchester sheriff’s deputies and a trained dog from Frederick County’s K-9 unit participated in the search.
