Winchester woman dies in Sunday crash

A Winchester woman died Sunday in a single car crash on Va. 37, one-tenth of a mile south of U.S. 11 in Frederick County, state police said Monday.

Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler identified the victim as LaNell Gay Hockman, 60. Tyler said Hockman was traveling southbound on Va. 37 at 11:30 a.m. when she lost control of her 2004 Audi, ran off the right side of the road and hit a guardrail. The car crossed back to the southbound lane and went off the road to the left, striking another guardrail, Tyler said.

Hockman was taken to Winchester Medical Center where she was pronounced dead from her injuries around midnight, Tyler said. Tyler said Hockman was not wearing a seat belt.
