The Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative is requesting that its members make every attempt to conserve electricity during the peak demand time, from about 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Due to extreme heat conditions and excessive energy consumption, higher electric bills could result due to increased use of electrical energy. SVEC announced in a release that a collective reduction in peak demand will result in savings for members.

Distinctions-LLC, a global management consulting firm and provider of business and marketing strategy and operational gap management to its clientele, has officially opened its doors in the Bright Center in Old Town Winchester. Winchester native Darla Frye-Guevremont founded the company and serves as its CEO.

Jenna French, executive director of the Shenandoah County Chamber of Commerce, announced her resignation Tuesday morning. French will be leaving to work at her new position as Shenandoah County tourism director. The chamber has begun searching for a new executive director and will accept applications until July 31. The Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s board of directors selected Ronald J. Tipton as its new executive director and CEO. Tipton walked the entire length of the Appalachian Trail in 1978 and has spent most of the past 30 years as an advocate for public land preservation and national park protection. He will lead the organization beginning in late August. The ATC currently has more than 43,000 members, more than 6,000 volunteers and an operating budget of $7.3 million.

The Virginia Bankers Association has named Middleburg Bank President and CEO Gary R. Shook as its chairman and announced the members of its 2013-2014 Board of Directors. Board members include Scott C. Harvard, president and CEO of First Bank in Strasburg, and John R. Milleson, president and CEO of the Bank of Clarke County.

Jeremy D. McCleary has been elected president of the Rotary Club of Woodstock. His team of officers and board members took office this month and will officiate the 70-member club for the next year.

Debra R. Morfit was installed as the 88th president of the Rotary Club of Front Royal and will serve as president from July 1 to June 30, 2014. Morfit first joined the Rotary Club of Front Royal in 1997 and was installed by outgoing president J. Daniel Pond III.

Shannon Gilmore and John Owen have joined Coldwell Banker Premier Properties as sales associates. Gilmore’s credentials include the Accredited Buyer Representative designation and certifications with multiple relocation companies. Owen’s background includes active service in the U.S. Navy and experience in manufacturing, retail, human resources, HVAC and refrigeration
