Charges dropped against defendant in truck stop incident

By Joe Beck

Shenandoah County prosecutors dropped charges of robbery and assault and battery against Dylan John Knouse early last week in a case involving a confrontation at Love's Travel Center in Toms Brook.

Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Ilona White said she made a motion in Shenandoah County General District Court to drop the charges after speaking with investigators about the case.

"Based on the information gathered by the investigators, we felt there wasn't enough probable cause to pursue the robbery charge," White said Monday. She added that the assault and battery charge also fell short of probable cause.

The criminal complaint against Knouse, 20, of 1391 Mt. Olive Road, states that Shenandoah County Sgt. J.N. Armentrout responded to a report of a disturbance at the truck stop on June 24.

On his way to the truck stop, Armentrout stopped a vehicle on Mt. Olive Road in which Knouse was a passenger, the complaint states. Knouse told Armentrout that another man, identified as Treshaw Robinson, tried to steal money from him, according to the complaint.

The complaint states that the altercation began at the truck stop where Robinson had planned to pay Knouse $100 for car speakers. Robinson said he passed the money to Knouse, who grabbed it without handing over the speakers, the complaint states.

Instead, the complaint states, the car Knouse was riding in took off with Robinson hanging on for a quarter mile or a half mile before it stopped with Robinson still clinging to the vehicle.
