Robbery case goes to grand jury

Suspect captured soon after Front Royal credit union was robbed

By Joe Beck

The case of a Front Royal man charged in the aftermath of a credit union robbery will be presented to a grand jury for a possible indictment after it was certified at a hearing Wednesday in Warren County General District Court.

Daniel Ivan Jones, 30, of 421 E. Criser Road, is facing charges of robbery and communicating a bomb threat stemming from the robbery of the Front Royal Federal Credit Union on March 29.

Commonwealth's Attorney Brian Madden said Krista Beahm, a teller at the credit union, was the only witness to testify at the hearing.

The criminal complaint against Jones, signed by Detective Jason Winner, states that Jones entered the credit union at about 11:12 a.m., walked up to a table in front of the teller station and took a piece of paper from an envelope he was carrying.

Jones wrote, "I'm going to blow this b**** up I want the money," according to the complaint.

The complaint states the teller gave Jones cash that included bait money, and he walked out the front door with the cash in his hand. The credit union later determined that Jones had taken $3,877.90, according to the complaint.

Officers who later arrived at the scene obtained a description of the robber. One of them then saw Jones walking down South Street and matched him to the description, authorities said. Jones was arrested within about three minutes after police were initially called to the credit union.

The complaint states that police found $3,878 on Jones, including the bait money. Jones later admitted to police that he had gone to the bank and put a note before a teller, who then gave him the money.
