Public meetings: July 8-12


The following public meetings are scheduled this week:

Shenandoah County
Edinburg

Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Mount Jackson

Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The town manager will report on the First Avenue drainage project. Council may consider approving a contract to install a hoist for the wastewater treatment plant maintenance. Council plans to hold a closed session to meet with legal counsel and to discuss a personnel matter.

Strasburg
Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Council plans to give recognitions and Mayor Timothy Taylor will deliver the state of the town address. Council also will elect its officers. Members also may consider a 180-day extension of a purchase option agreement on land in the Pouts Hill area. The town entered into the initial agreement in February for land considered as a possible site for a new water tower. The agreement expires Aug. 4.

Warren County
Warren County Airport Commission meets at 7 p.m. Monday at the airport terminal.

The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The commission plans to hold public hearings on:

  • A request to amend the county zoning map and to rezone approximately 4.95 acres of property at 4442 Remount Road from residential to agricultural use

  • A request for a conditional-use permit for a commercial kennel for boarding and training at 2885 Strasburg Road

  • A request for a conditional-use permit for private-use camping on residential property off of Farms River Road

  • The commission also plans to consider setting a public hearing for a request of a subdivision variance. The variance is needed to re-subdivide and consolidate existing lots in the Greystone Heights subdivision in order for the applicant to build a home on the remaining 23 acres.
  • Front Royal
    Town Council meets at 7 p.m. Monday. Council plans to consider on second reading an ordinance to repeal the section of town code pertaining to the towing advisory board. Council also may adopt a resolution to participate in a loan for the design of the Leach Run Parkway. Council then plans to meet in closed session to discuss the acquisition of real property and the investment of public funds. Following the regular meeting, council plans to hold a work session to discuss a possible amendment to the town code to allow for the discharge of rainwater.

    Frederick County
    The Comprehensive Plans and Programs Committee meets at 7 p.m. Monday. The panel intends to continue its discussion of the Southern Frederick Area Plan. The plan updates and renews land use and transportation intentions for the area located between U.S. 522 South, Va. 277 (Fairfax Pike) and Interstate 81. The effort uses the previously adopted Southern Frederick Land Use Plan, the Route 277 Triangle and Urban Center Plan and the Tasker Woods Land Use Plan.

    The Board of Supervisors and the Frederick County Sanitation Authority hold a work session at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

    The Board of Supervisors meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The board plans to appoint a resident to serve as the supervisor for the Opequon Magisterial District. The board also will adopt a resolution of appreciation for Bill Ewing for his service as the Opequon District supervisor. Supervisors also plan to hold public hearings on:

  • A 12-month, outdoor festival permit requested by Blue Fox Billiards Bar & Grill, 1160 Millwood Pike

  • An ordinance amendment to revise and update motor-vehicle access requirements pertaining to entrance spacing

  • An ordinance amendment to revise county code to allow divisions to existing rural preservation tracts already recorded

  • Middletown
    Town Council meets at 7 p.m. Monday.

    Stephens City
    The Town Council Personnel Committee meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
