Strasburg police arrest man after interstate chase

Daily staff report

Strasburg police arrested Ronald Baines Tates, 47, of Lebanon Church, around mid-day Monday after a chase that spanned five miles on Interstates 81 and 66.

Strasburg police Chief Tim Sutherly said the chase of an older model Toyota pickup truck began on I-81 near the U.S. 11 exit and ended at mile marker 4 on I-66. The highest speed was 87 mph, Sutherly said.

Sutherly said Tates' driver's license had been suspended for a drunk driving conviction. Police also found a small amount of marijuana in Tates' possession, Sutherly said.

Police charged Tates with attempting to elude, driving on a suspended driver's license and possession of marijuana.

Sutherly said police are also investigating whether the truck may have been stolen.
