Roanoke woman killed in I-66 crash
By Ryan Cornell
A woman died in a single vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 66 near Linden at about 2:25 p.m. Thursday, according to state police Sgt. F.L. "Les" Tyler.
Tyler said the woman, Sunmi Seo, 37, of Roanoke, was sleeping on the backseat of the van when the crash occurred about four miles east of the Front Royal exit. She was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle during the impact. She died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Tyler said the driver, Kwan Woo Seo, 39, of Roanoke, lost control of the vehicle when it entered a heavy rainstorm.
"The vehicle ran off the road to the right and struck a guardrail," Tyler said. "It spun and struck the guardrail a second time. It then spun across both lanes and struck the left guardrail."
Two children, ages 6 and 7, were sitting in captain chairs. They were wearing seatbelts and were not injured in the crash.
All westbound lanes of I-66 were closed following the crash. They were reopened at about 4:50 p.m.
Tyler said the driver was issued a summons for reckless driving.
