Winchester man dies in crash

A fatal crash in Winchester at about 11:23 p.m. Thursday night has left one man dead.

Joshua Emerich Wolford, 22, of Winchester, was driving eastbound on Valley Mill Road a half-mile east of Greenwood Road when his vehicle ran off to the right, according to Sgt. F.L. Tyler, public information officer for the Virginia State Police.

Tyler said Wolford overcorrected and drove the vehicle, a 2002 Ford F-150 pickup truck, off the road on the left side and struck an embankment.

Tyler said Wolford was ejected from the car and died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

“According to [Senior Trooper K.L.] Myers’ investigation, it appears that speed and alcohol were a factor, as well as failure to wear a seatbelt,” Tyler said.

The crash was a single-vehicle accident and the driver was the only occupant in the truck.
