Bank heist suspect nabbed

A suspect in the Saturday morning robbery of the United Bank on Berryville Avenue has been apprehended in Maryland, according to Winchester police.

The man, identified as Charles Franklin Adams III, 45, of Stephens City, was arrested during a traffic stop at 9 a.m. Sunday in Howard County, Md. According to a news release, Adams was driving the same truck that he was seen driving after the bank robbery.

The United Bank, at 1041 Berryville Ave. in Winchester, was robbed around 9:30 a.m. Saturday by a man described as being white, in his late 30s, about 6-feet tall and 180 to 190 pounds. He had a scruffy beard and was wearing a dark gray or black long-sleeved mock turtleneck, dark-colored cargo shorts and a white cap.

The suspect was seen getting into a white, late 1980s or early 1990s Chevrolet truck. The release states he was seen leaving Elm Street and turning westbound on Berryville Avenue.

Police report that the Frederick County Sheriff's Office has outstanding warrants on Adams. They include one misdemeanor count of stealing checks, one count of grand larceny and four counts of forgery.
