Charges pending in roadside scuffle between trooper, motorist

Daily staff report

A roadside scuffle between a state trooper and a motorist Thursday morning along Interstate 66 at the 2 mile marker required both men to be hospitalized for minor injuries.

State police Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler said trooper T.L. Hilliker stopped on I-66 after seeing a 2005 Toyota on the shoulder of the road that appeared to be disabled.

Tyler said a fight broke out when Hilliker tried to help the driver. The fight ended with the driver placed under arrest and both men taken to Warren Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor cuts and bruises, Tyler said. Other state troopers and law enforcement officers from Warren County also converged on the scene, Tyler said.

Tyler said late Friday afternoon that the driver remains under arrest and charges are pending against him. Information on the driver’s identity and specific charges facing him were unavailable.
