Fire destroys Front Royal apartment
Daily staff report
An apartment fire in Front Royal displaced at least one person Friday afternoon.
Fire and rescue crews from four companies responded to an apartment complex at 353 Kendrick Lane around 3:15 p.m. Fire Marshal Gerry Maiatico, with the Warren County Department of Fire and Rescue Services, said crews arrived to find a moderate of smoke in the building and traced the source to a second-story apartment.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 15 minutes. Rescue workers examined an occupant who lives in the affected apartment for smoke inhalation but he refused treatment, Maiatico said. Crews remained on the scene for about an hour.
The fire remains under investigation by the fire marshal with the assistance of the Front Royal Police Department. Maiatico would not say whether officials deemed the fire suspicious or as a result of arson.
The fire caused approximately $10,000 in damage and rendered the apartment at least temporarily uninhabitable, Maiatico said. The common area of the second floor also sustained smoke damage, he added.
Maiatico said more information about the cause and nature of the fire would be released in the future.
Crews from Front Royal, Shenandoah Shores, Linden and North Warren stations responded to the incident.
