Area police to host National Night Out activities

The Front Royal Police Department is holding its National Night Out event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the gazebo off of Main Street.

The Warren County High School band will open the event at 6 p.m. The local band "Souled Out" will follow and play for the rest of the night.

The first 200 children to visit the Volunteers In Police Service booth will receive McGruff backpacks. Target Brands Inc, a national sponsor, will conduct bicycle safety lessons and give away a free bicycle.

The free event also includes 70 vendors offering information on topics such as Neighborhood Watch, travel safety and stranger danger.

Other area communities are also hosting National Night Out events.

Strasburg's event will include food, music by the Robbie Limon Band and activities for children. It will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday in the Washington Street town lot.

Winchester public safety officials are encouraging residents to participate in National Night Out by locking their doors, turning on outside lights and spending the evening outside with neighbors and visiting police from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Free food and drinks will be available in Winchester at the following locations:

Highland Memorial Presbyterian Church, 446 Highland Ave.; Woodland Avenue Neighborhood Watch Group, 1032 Woodland Ave.; Montague Avenue Methodist Church, 102 Montague Ave; Willow Lawn Community Center, 1824 Tilghman Lane; and Target department store, 2340 Legge Boulevard.
