Shentel realigns management

By Ryan Cornell

Shentel announced on Monday that it has realigned its management structure to focus more on the cable, wireline and wireless segments of its business.

Three of the company's senior executives have been tapped to lead the marketing, sales and operations of each segment.

Thomas Whitaker, previously the vice president of operations, has been named vice president of cable.

Edward McKay, former vice president of engineering and planning, has been named vice president of wireline and engineering.

William Pirtle, former vice president of sales and marketing, has been named vice president of wireless and also will be responsible for site acquisition and tower leasing.

Earle MacKenzie, Shentel executive vice president and chief operating officer, said there is no change in strategy.

"The purpose of this, as the company's grown, we've thought it was important to have a member of the senior staff dedicated to each line of business," he said.

The Edinburg-based telecommunications firm has experienced some steady growth. It updated its fiber-optic network two weeks ago to support speeds of 100 gigabytes per second and has increased its total revenue by 8.5 percent compared to the second quarter of 2012.

"We're just changing focus as we shift from a functional organization to one organized around these three lines of business," MacKenzie said.
