WOODSTOCK -- A tractor-trailer driver was injured and transported to the hospital Thursday morning after his rig went down an embankment off Interstate 81, two miles south of Woodstock.

K.W. Taylor, state police motor carrier trooper, said the driver, Peter S. Bukowski, 57, of Lancaster, Pa., was southbound on I-81 when his rig crashed.

The rig was hauling chocolate from Hershey, Pa., to Stuarts Draft, Va.

State police Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler said the accident happened at about 6:40 a.m.

"It ran off to the right, struck a guardrail, went across the Narrow Passage Creek bridge, went through the guardrail, down an embankment and overturned," Tyler said.

Bukowski's 2011 Mack tractor, owned by LCL Bulk Transport Inc. of Green Bay, Wisc., was totaled.

Taylor said the chocolate product would have to be pumped out of the tanker before it hardened.
