Daily staff report
Authorities have identified two people killed Saturday night when a vehicle went into the Shenandoah River in Warren County.
Coty James Ferguson, 18, of Front Royal, and Robert Allen Jeffries Jr., 17, died as a result of injuries sustained when the car they were in went off the low-water bridge on Morgan Ford Road, state police spokesman Sgt. F.L. "Les" Tyler said Sunday.
A third male passenger was also in the vehicle. Tyler said he did not have information on that passenger's identity or his condition.
A 1995 Honda driven by Ferguson was traveling south on Morgan Ford Road just after 11 p.m. when the vehicle began to cross the low-water bridge over the Shenandoah River, Tyler said. The vehicle ran off the right side of the bridge, overturned and landed in the water, Tyler said.
The crash remains under investigation by Trooper C.P. Maddox. Tyler said it appeared that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
Tyler said he did not have any addition information on the crash or fire and rescue response to the incident.
