Saturday commemorates National Thrift Shop Day

MOUNT JACKSON -- Wanna pop some tags, but only have $20 in your pocket?
Well, you're in luck, because Saturday marks National Thrift Shop Day.
Although the history behind the holiday remains shrouded in mystery, many secondhand stores in Shenandoah County are offering special deals this weekend that would make even Macklemore jealous.
Thrift shop owner Tiffany Figueroa said she's noticed more teenagers in her store since hip-hop artist released his song "Thrift Shop" last August. "My kids think I should play it in here all the time," she said.
Her store, Tiffany's Thrift Store at 5908 Main St., Mount Jackson, is running a sale through Saturday where all items with a white tag are 99 cents. Specially marked tags will benefit the Shenandoah County Food Pantry and the Humane Society.
Down the sidewalk, the SEARCH Thrift Shop at 5982 Main St., Mount Jackson, is holding a 99-cent clothing sale on Friday. All of its colored tags will be 99 cents and its white tags will be half-price. The shop has this sale every third Friday of the month and gives 100 percent of its proceeds to the SEARCH group home.
This weekend, the Mount Jackson Thrift & Gift at 5987 Main St., Mount Jackson, is marking 10 percent off its furniture and jewelry.
Blue Ridge Hospice, which has thrift shops throughout the Valley, is having a clearance sale on summer clothing at its Front Royal location at 449 South St. All profits support its hospice patients.
The Shenandoah County Thrift Store at 659 North Main St., Woodstock, doesn't offer any deals until the end of the month, though it supports a wide range of good causes. All of its profits go to charities, including food banks, The Volunteer Farm, Meals on Wheels and the pregnancy center.
