Woodstock man indicted in child molestation case

By Joe Beck

A Shenandoah County grand jury indicted a Woodstock man Wednesday on three offenses arising from an investigation into accusations that he molested a 5-year-old girl.

Mikhail Osterfeld, 37, of 221 Waterbrook Court was indicted on aggravated sexual battery against a child younger than 13, taking indecent liberties with a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Osterfeld, who was arrested in early July, appeared in court and later returned to the Shenandoah County jail where he is being held on a $50,000 secured bond.

Authorities accuse him of sexually assaulting one of two girls, ages 5 and 7, who went for a walk with him between 3 and 5 p.m. on July 9, according to a criminal complaint filed against him.

Osterfeld told the girls they could take their clothes off if they wanted to swim in a neighborhood creek, the complaint states.

One of the girls went into the creek in her underwear, although the other stayed fully clothed, according to the complaint.

Osterfeld later sexually assaulted the 5-year-old girl in a woods after she had gone swimming, the complaint states.

Osterfeld was working with a military contractor in Afghanistan at the time he was charged. He was scheduled to return to Afghanistan two days after he allegedly molested the girl, according to court documents.

He is no longer employed with the organization he was working with Afghanistan, according to a spokesman for the organization.
