Woodstock man sentenced to six years in child molestation case

By Joe Beck

A Woodstock man has been sentenced to six years in prison for molesting a 10-year-old girl around her residence in Edinburg.

Antonio Ramirez Mateo, 66, of 285 Stultz Gap, was also sentenced to 10 years probation on one count each of aggravated sexual battery to a child less than 13 years old and taking indecent liberty with a child less than 15 years old. The sentence, imposed Aug. 7, also included 10 years probation.

The criminal complaint against Ramirez Mateo, written by Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office Investigator S.W. Leake, states that the Child Advocacy Center in Winchester interviewed the 10-year-old victim on Oct. 11, 2012.

The victim told the interviewer in a videotaped statement that sometime between June and September of 2010 Ramirez Mateo asked her to help him look for shoes in a garage beside her trailer or residence, according to the complaint.

"While inside the garage, Ramirez Mateo had the victim lie down on a suitcase on the ground," Leake wrote.

At that point, Ramirez Mateo pulled down the pants and underwear he was wearing, did the same to the girl, and performed a sex act with her, according to the complaint.

"On or about (Oct. 9, 2012), the victim's father ... confronted Ramirez Mateo about what the victim had said and Ramirez Mateo admitted to inappropriate touching of the victim," the complaint states.

Online court records also show Ramirez Mateo was recently charged with soliciting a prostitute, a charge that was later dropped.
