Long Ridge Cigars, a cigar store and smoking lounge, will hold its grand opening on Sept. 28. The store is located at 3035 Valley Ave., Suite 102, Winchester. Founded by Winchester natives Tom LaPlante, Christopher Collins and John Ricketts, Long Ridge Cigars features a walk-in humidor and a collection of cigar brands and accessories. Lunch will be provided by Back Porch BBQ from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A meeting to discuss coyote management will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 26 at Peter Muhlenberg Middle School in Woodstock. Information about the increasing coyote population, coyote biology, livestock protection and a management program available to area farmers through the USDA will be presented at the meeting. The meeting is open to the public and advance registration is not needed.

People Incorporated of Virginia, an organization working to help the economically disadvantaged reach their goals, received the 2013 Community Economic Development Entrepreneurship and Innovation Award. The award recognizes community action agencies for job creation, asset building and economic impact on low-income communities and was presented in Chicago on Aug. 29.

Winchester attorney Peter Burnett, principal at Burnett & Williams P.C., was selected by his peers for inclusion in the 20th edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the area of Personal Injury Litigation-Plaintiffs. Best Lawyers is the oldest peer-review publication in the legal profession.

Trex is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Winchester production facility this month. The wood-alternative decking and railing manufacturer first opened its Winchester production lines on Sept. 13, 1993. Eleven of the original employees still work for Trex today.

The Northern Virginia Conservation Trust has appointed Peggy Stevens as its new executive director. Stevens has worked for five years as executive director of the Westport Land Conservation Trust in southeastern Massachusetts, where she more than quadrupled the annual fund, doubled membership revenue and protected 600 acres of land.
