Missing child found unharmed
A bloodhound from the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office located a missing 2-year-old boy unharmed at 4 a.m., the Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office reported Wednesday.
Maj. Scott Proctor said the boy, Jakob Heintzelman, was found about a half mile south of his residence at 2104 S. Hollingsworth Road in Woodstock, where he had been last seen by family members at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Authorities had been searching for the boy since he was reported missing to the Sheriff's Office at 6:42 p.m.
Proctor said the boy was taken to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital for a routine examination after authorities found him.
Sheriff Timothy Carter said this morning in an email that Jakob was medically screened and returned safely home to his mother.
"I do not have all of the organizations that helped in this effort, but we are extremely grateful for the individual volunteers (about 250) and governmental organizations and volunteer organizations who supported and assisted with the search," Carter stated.
"We want to thank those people for their assistance," Proctor said.
Proctor said a yellow Labrador dog that had been with the boy when he went missing had also been found unharmed in his company.
