Rapid Rehabilitation, a physical therapy practice with locations in Winchester and Front Royal, purchased the site of the former Royal Oak Tavern in August and will transform the building into a clinic.

Mike Silek, senior commercial specialist with Adams Nelson & Associates, said tavern owner Anthony Andriola tried to sell the property at 101 W. 14th St. as a restaurant for 24 months. He said he was first contacted by Andriola when the existing listing agreement expired and Andriola decided to sell the lot as a piece of real estate.

Silek said Dr. Sherisue Barber, a physical therapist with Rapid Rehabilitation, bought the property for about $475,000.

Peggy Walk, physician liaison at the practice, said they hope to open at the end of October. She said they plan to move there from their current suite on South Commerce Avenue in Front Royal.

"Basically, we were in a smaller clinic and we've outgrown that clinic," she said. "And this particular spot is much more accessible and is closer to the doctors' offices and the hospital."

She added that the new location has more parking spots and more space for a gym.

"It's much larger and much more convenient for our patients," she said.

Construction is under way on renovating the interior of the building.

Walk said the practice plans to lease up to 1,500 square feet of space to other medical providers.
