Public meetings

The following public meetings are scheduled this week:

Shenandoah County

The Conservation Easement Authority meets at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The Board of Supervisors holds a work session at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The Public Safety and Recreation Committee meets at 10 a.m. Monday. The committee plans to discuss residents' safety concerns with crosswalks and with skateboarders and bicyclists. The committee also will hear an update on the park and pool activities. Members also will hear a proposal on the possible reuse of the tennis courts for the town dog park.

The Infrastructure Committee meets at 5 p.m. Monday. The committee may make a recommendation to Town Council for a water storage plan after members look at the costs and benefits of different options. The committee also plans to discuss a timeline for improvements to Main Street and the completion of work on Ash Street. Other discussion items may include the Massanutten Street Trail, improvements to East Washington Street and updates on the water and sewer plants.

Town Council holds a work session at 7 p.m. Monday. Council plans to take action on a proposed change to the current budget to move funds from part-time to full-time wages and vehicle payments. Council may take action on a proposed resolution on financing vehicle purchases. Council plans to discuss the planned annexation of the North Shenandoah Industrial Park.

Toms Brook
The Toms Brook Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Town Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Council will hear reports from the Woodstock Enhancement Committee and from the Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission.

Warren County
The Board of Supervisors meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The board plans to hear reports on the Civil War Sesquicentennial, a rate notice from the Rappahannock Electric Cooperative and other agencies. The board plans to authorize staff to advertise public hearings on:

  • Submission of a funding application to the Virginia Department of Transportation Alternatives Program

  • A proposed change to the zoning ordinance to add batch mix asphalt plant to uses allowed in the industrial district with a conditional-use permit

  • A proposed memorandum of understanding to provide annual payment to Front Royal in the equivalent of 2 percent of the meals tax collected by the county within the U.S. 340-522 North Corridor as a form of annual revenue sharing

The board also plans to consider:

  • An addendum to the general reassessment agreement between the county and Wingate & Associates

  • The purchase of EnerGov Software System for the Building Inspections Department

  • A contract for exterior repair and painting of the Warren County Courthouse

  • The use of courthouse ground for the display of a nativity scene and a wooden cross for 9-11 victims and troops on the front line, requested by Dorothy Sullivan, of Little Chapel Baptist Church

  • The renaming of Banshee Court to Pepper Court in Skyland Estates

  • The naming of the secondary access road off Fairground Road as Winners Court

The board also plans to hold public hearings beginning at 9:30 a.m. on:

  • A proposed lease renewal and change to the current lease with the Sherwin Williams store

  • A proposed, two-year lease of the former Sheriff's Office building to Front Royal for the town police department

  • Supervisors plan to meet in closed session to discuss appointments to the Road Viewer Committee and the acquisition of property. The board will hold a work session following the regular meeting to discuss town-county liaison committee agenda items and the Virginia Local Disability Program.

The Board of Zoning Appeals meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The board plans to hear an appeal of the Warren County Zoning Administrator given to Frank H. Barnett Jr. on July 16. The administrator determined the definition of "equipment" in Barnett's conditional-use permit issued by the county in 1988 for property at 730 Luray Ave., Front Royal. The administrator determined the definition means devices, apparatuses and tools, but does not refer to the repair or sales of hydraulic machinery or vehicles, or to set up a storage yard for a parts dealership.

Front Royal

Town Council holds a work session for its retreat to discuss the next fiscal budget. Council plans to meet in closed session following the retreat to consult with legal counsel, specifically about annexation.

Frederick County

The Finance Committee meets at 8 a.m. Monday.

The Technical Advisory Committee of the Metropolitan Planning Organization meets at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The Technology Committee meets at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Economic Development Commission meets at 8 a.m. Friday at the Winchester Regional Airport.

The Human Resources Committee meets at 8 a.m. Friday.

Stephens City

The Parks and Recreation Committee meets at 5 p.m. Monday.

Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
