Town warns of smell from Avtex

Daily staff report

Contractors working on the remediation efforts at the former Avtex site in Front Royal spread mushroom compost on top of the former sulfate basins last week, according to town press release.

The compost consists of mushroom roots and manure. The town warns that, depending on the direction of the wind, odor from the compost may travel to the neighborhoods of Cherrydale or Royal Village.

The odor should dissipate in the next week or two, the release states. Anyone with questions about the matter can call the town at 635-8007.
