The Free Medical Clinic of Northern Shenandoah Valley Inc. raised more than $106,000 in net proceeds from its 17th annual Taste of the Town Benefit and Auction. The funds will be used to support the clinic's services for those patients who meet income guidelines and have no health insurance. Chef Brian Whitson and The Battletown Inn in Berryville won the Critic's Choice Award for the third consecutive time for their watermelon salad, pulled duck BBQ sliders and toasted almond petit four.

Construction of Dominion Virginia Power's Warren County Power Station has reached 50 percent completion. Seventeen months after starting construction, the station is expected to be online by the fourth quarter of 2014.

Edward Jones Financial Advisor Marquetta Mitchell will host a seminar on life insurance at Cristina's Café in Strasburg at 9 a.m., Oct. 16. Melissa Reed, regional life specialist with Lincoln Financial Group, will present her seminar, titled "The Elements of Life: Understanding the role of life insurance." Cristina's Café is located at 219 W. King St., Strasburg. Call 540-465-2605 on or before Friday to reserve a seat.

Long & Foster/Webber & Associates in Winchester has announced its top producers for September. Jim Thomson was named top lister, Bob Boden was named top salesperson and Julie Teets was named top producer.

Tom Ashton, attorney with the Solomon Law Group, attended a one-day seminar in Richmond. The seminar, sponsored by consultants for the Department of Justice and called the Articulate Advocate, discussed how to be more persuasive through body language and how to more effectively use the voice in an argument to a judge or jury.
